ChatGPT and other AI chatbots decided to spice up the Scottish election by inventing fake scandals, fabricating candidates who don't exist, and getting dates wrong. A Demos investigation found the bots were basically running their own alternate-reality election coverage. The Electoral Commission is now calling for legal controls because apparently AI can't be trusted to get basic facts right about democracy.
