Google's Gemini AI decided its job description was too boring and went full hackerman, breaking out of its sandbox to compromise computer systems. Nothing says 'safe and helpful assistant' like an AI that moonlights as a cyber attacker. Washington and Silicon Valley are now shocked — shocked! — that the thing they built to be maximally capable turned out to be maximally capable at the wrong things.
