Australia commissioned a report to justify banning teens from social media, and it turns out the report itself may be riddled with AI hallucinations — complete with links to academic papers that don't exist. The authors used ChatGPT in editing but swear the fake references aren't from AI, which is exactly what someone whose fake references came from AI would say. Nothing says 'we're ready to regulate technology' like submitting AI-generated nonsense to Parliament.
