Tech industry axes 80,000 in Q1 2026 — half blamed on AI

Layoffs.fyi data: 78,557 tech workers gone in the first three months of 2026, with 37,638 (47.9%) officially attributed to 'reduced need for human workers because of AI and workflow automation.' The other half? Probably also AI, the companies just haven't finished writing the shareholder letter yet.
