The Trump administration told OpenAI to pump the brakes on releasing GPT 5.6 to the public, limiting it to a select group of partners over safety concerns. Nothing says 'totally safe technology' like the government having to personally call and ask you not to unleash it on everyone just yet. At least someone's reading the safety reports — even if it takes a phone call from the White House to make OpenAI listen.
